The Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle de Lyon (IGFL) is a unique scientific environment where teams address basic research questions at the interfaces of evolution, physiology and development, using functional genomics, bioinformatics, genetics and comparative approaches. The main focus is integrative, organism-level research on animals, and the institute houses a diversity of model and non-model organisms. The environment fosters rich intellectual exchanges and collaborations, supported by the excellent in-house facilities. The IGFL is part of a vibrant fundamental research community, encouraging collaborations with neighboring institutes on the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS de Lyon) campus, in Lyon, France. The working language is English.

We have an opening for an independent group leader (junior or established). Talented scientists leading research falling within the scientific scope of the Institute are encouraged to apply. We are seeking to increase the number of women team leaders and will particularly welcome applications from women scientists.

The institute will provide a financial package to establish the team (‘seed money’) and an equipped laboratory for up to 10 people. Joining the IGFL as a group leader is conditional on successful candidates securing external funding for their salary and their research project. Junior group leaders should be eligible for start-up programs (ERC Starting Grant, ATIP-Avenir, or equivalent). The IGFL will support the selected candidate to secure a permanent research position in France. Candidates who already hold a position in France, both junior and established, are also welcome to apply.

The institute is housed in a new building on the multidisciplinary ENS de Lyon campus in Gerland (part of the Université de Lyon). Our institute comprises 120 members, including recipients of international and national distinctions. We benefit from on-campus access to state-of-the-art core services, including high throughput sequencing technologies, advanced microscopy facilities, X-ray microtomography and morphometrics, transgenic animal facilities, bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, proteomics and FACS sorting. See http://igfl.ens-lyon.fr/ and http://www.sfr-biosciences.fr/ for details.

Applications in English should include curriculum vitae, a short description of achievements and records of self-financing, a proposed research program of maximum 5 pages and contact details for 3 professional references. Applications must be sent as a single PDF saved as LASTNAME_IGFL_2020.pdf to direction.igfl@ens-lyon.fr. We are happy to provide further information on the interview process and selection criteria – enquiries can be forwarded to the same email address.

The deadline for applications is April 11, 2020.
Interviews of shortlisted candidates and a site visit
will be held in Lyon, France, from July 7th to 9th 2020.
